What exactly are we “over?”

We’re over:
the idea that sexual assault is about sex.

We’re over:
looking the other way when we see someone being harassed at work.

We’re over:
dismissing rape jokes and using “boys will be boys” as an excuse for unacceptable behavior.

We’re over:
asking, “what was she wearing?” and “were they drunk?”

We’re over:
thinking that only women are the victims of sexual violence.

We’re over:
protecting the reputations of perpetrators.

We’re over:
racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and ableism.

We’re over:
catcalling and revenge porn.

We’re over:
thinking that attention or accepting a drink equals consent.

What we’ll never be over:

Believing victims.

Protecting victims.

Supporting victims.

Defending victims.
